The growth of dating sites is becoming stagnant. Growth rates of 7% by the top players is nothing to crow about. It should come as no surprise that sexually orientated sites are doing much, much better at a growth rate of 67% for the top sexually oriented dating site. Why is this? Why can’t regular dating sites draw numbers? Is the current system invalid? I know I wouldn’t want to take a psychological test to meet someone. Here is what I think the problem is. Also, dating usually originates when people are doing something not related to finding a date, for example hanging out with friends and seeing someone you are interested in. Dating sites are about….Dating. If a site can be a social event that also encourages dating then I think there will be a great business there. Sexually oriented dating sites aren’t about dating. They are about sex but at the same time dating is encouraged and look at their growth numbers. The entrepreneur who figures out how to create an online social event that also encourages dating will be on their way to dominating the dating industry.
